This project is carried out as Mohammad Shafieipour’s Final Year Project (FYP) at the Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University (MMU), Malaysia, under the supervision of Dr. Ian Chai.
Abstract: This project is about reading e-books on Mobile Phones. A converter is created, which is capable of converting PDF and TEXT files into JAR files which are executable by any Java-enabled Mobile Phone. The result is a Mobile Phone PDF and TEXT Viewer.
Two different libraries are used to support content extraction from PDF files. These libraries are extended to fulfill our needs and create related TEXT and PNG files. A Mobile Application has been developed which is capable of reading the created TEXT and PNG files on Java-enabled mobile phones. A Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been created to enable the end-user to easily convert the file.
This is a purely software project which uses Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) for the computer side and Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) for the Mobile Phone side. The application has been tested on several different mobile phones to make sure of the compatibility and user-friendliness. This project is designed to support unicoded PDF files with a few limitations.
